Devastated flood damages 1/3 of total infrastructure of country: Asima
PESHAWAR, Aug 14: Advisor to Prime Minister and Provincial President of PPP women wing Mohtarma Asima Alamgir on Saturday said that 1/3 of the total country’s infrastructure has been damaged due to devastated flood and termed Khyber Pakhtunkhwa as the most horrible affected province.
Talking to APP during her visit to Charsadda, she urged upon oversees Pakistani to come forward and generously contribute for the assistance and rehabilitation of flood affected people.
She said the people of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have been rendered great sacrifices already in the war against terror and stressed on the world community to come forward generously to support the government.
“The magnitude of devastation caused by the record-breaking flood in our country is much bigger than the tsunami and we need to work together to help assist our needy brethren in this hour of need of tribulation,” she added.
She also lauded the efforts of some of the country who are contributing more toward the support to the flood affected people, adding, we need more support from them in the rehabilitation and reconstruction phases.
She assured that the federal government would also extend full support accordingly and would stand with the people and the government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
She expressed the fear of spreading pestiferous diseases among the people of flood affected areas so she made an appeal to World Health Organization to extend role in order to stop spreading of such diseases in the camps.
Asima Alamgir said Pakistan badly needs food, medicines, construction materials, shelter, tents etc for over 10million displaced people. To a question, she said, Pakistan needs help from international community to assist such a large number of flood affected people. It is also important for the war against terror and as soon the issue of flood is solved focus would be placed on the war against terror.
She disclosed that government is contacting with the International Doctors Forum so that they come here in large number to avoid possible outbreak of water born diseases and other epidemics.
Earlier, Asma Alamgir during her visit to Surana Dagai and met with the people. She assured that the government has taken appropriate steps to provide them quick relief. Asma Alamgir was also accompanied with MPA Noor Sahar and members of the PPP women wing, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
