Payment of compensation to be completed within 45 days
LAHORE, Aug 14: Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif has said that the payment of compensation to the flood-affecteed would be completed within 45 days after the completion of survey of losses occurred in flood-hit areas.
He was addressing the affected at DG Khan and Taunsa during his visit to flood-hit areas on Saturday. He said that the amount of Rs.10 billion which has been announced by the Punjab government will be spent for the compensation of the affected and this amount will not be utilized on repair and construction of roads and spurs. He said that separate funds would be provided for the reconstruction of infrastructure.
The Chief Minister said that Punjab government is paying full attention towards provision of tents, food and medicines besides treatment of livestock. The administration has also been directed to take care of humans as well animals as without livestock, survival of human beings is not possible, he added.
He said, for the first time after flood, the government is distributing dry fodder for animals. He said that service to the flood affectees is our moral and religious obligation and if we did not help the oppressed masses today, then we will be answerable in the world hereafter.
The Chief Minister said that he has set up flood relief fund in which people are donating crores of rupees and every penny of this fund would be utilized for the relief and rehabilitation of affectees. He said that we have to help the flood stricken people irrespective of any political affiliation.
Shahbaz Sharif said that he also repeated the same words to the Prime Minister Yusaf Raza Gillani that without unity, we can not face the challenge of this flood.
Later, the Chief Minister went to the tent of the deceased child in Taunsa. He expressed sorrow with the heirs over the sad demise of the child and offered Fateha for the departed soul.
