PM visits flood affectees relief camp; joins them at Iftar

NOWSHERA, Aug 14: Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani Saturday assured the flood affected people that the government will not leave them alone in this hour of trial and will utilize all resources to help rehabilitate them. “We are deeply concerned and fully cognizant of your miseries and are trying our best to facilitate you in every possible way”, he stressed.

The Prime Minister was speaking to the flood affected people during his visit to a relief camp here at Govt College of Technology.
He presented a Rs. 50 million cheque to Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Amir Haider Khan Hoti for the provision 1000 tons (100 truck loads) of relief goods vis a vis food items for the flood affectees of Nowshera.
The Prime Minister, who specially flew here on the occasion of independence day to meet the flood affected people, also joined them at Iftar and later offered Maghrib prayers with them.
He was accompanied by Federal Ministers Qamar Zaman Kaira, Rehman Malik, Raja Pervez Ashraf, Babar Awan and Nazar Muhammad Gondal.
The Prime Minister said the whole of Pakistan has been affected by the natural calamity of floods, but Khyber Pakhtunkwa was worst affected.
He appealed to all political parties, civil society, NGOs and philanthropist to come forward and help their brethren who are in distress and needed support and assistance.
Gilani, who later had Iftar with the flood affected people while sitting on floor mat listened to their problems and assured of all out support of the government.
The relief camp established at Govt College of Technology housed 567 flood affected families (3289 people), who are provided with Sehri and Iftari.
Nowshera Kalan, which has a population of around 300,000 people, was badly affected by the recent rains and flash floods as 90 percent of houses were destroyed while the remaining 10 percent were not able to reside.
