US providing flood relief through local organizations
ISLAMABAD, Aug 14: The United States is providing emergency humanitarian assistance through international and local organizations to help meet the needs of those affected by the flood in Pakistan.
A spokesman for American embassy said that in 2009, the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) established a grant with concern Worldwide that allows for sub-grants to local non-governmental organizations (NGOs), international NGOs, or UN agencies to respond quickly to those in Pakistan displaced due to conflicts, crises, and disasters.
Known as the “Responding to Pakistan’s Internally Displaced” (RAPID) Fund, this grant allows the United States to quickly modify and expand ongoing emergency assistance programs in the flood-affected areas.
The RAPID Fund, which is working to assist flood-affected families, has provided 10 grants to local NGOs in Pakistan.
To date, the United States has committed nearly $76 million in Pakistan emergency flood relief assistance.
