Syed Khursheed Shah visits flood-hit areas on Independence Day

SUKKUR, Aug 14: Federal Minister for Labour and Manpower Syed Khursheed Ahmed Shah visited flood hit areas of Kashmore, Kandhkot, Jacobabad, Ghotki and Sukkur on Saturday to express solidarity with the affected people on the occasion of Independence Day.The Minister also visited different relief camps in flood hit areas, reviewed arrangements to facilitate the affected communities.He examined the relief activities carried out by the local administration, irrigation department and law enforcement agencies.

He issued orders to take special care of women and children at the camps, The Minister canceled all his political engagements and official commitments to personally watch the relief activities in the province since August 5.
He remained in touch with the Sindh provincial government, emphasizing them to make maximum efforts to rehabilitation and rescue works at all affected areas of the Sindh.
The Minister telephoned Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani to discuss with him the latest situation of floods in the province and evacuation of people from kacha areas.
He also directed workers of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) to take active part and support the affectees of flood.
Meanwhile, the Minister also contacted the business community to help him in collecting donations from well-off traders of various Chambers and Associations of the Sukkur and other districts.
They assured the Minister of their complete support.
Syed Khursheed Shah also visited the camps of the affected people, he personally monitored the evacuation of thousands of families from Kacha area to safer places.
Later, he told APP that he had asked the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) to coordinate with Executive District Officers (EDOs) Healthto check the feared outbreak of waterborne diseases in flooded areas.
He said the biggest challenge to the government was the restoration of civic facilities and infrastructure, and they would seek assistance from international agencies.
The Minister said he was satisfied with the arrangements for food and water supply to the displaced people. He said there was no lack of coordination between the relief agencies since the NDMA was in touch with all provincial and local governments as well as ministries and the armed forces.
