ISLAMABAD, Aug 14: Chief Engineer, Federal Flood Commission (FFC), Alamgir Khan has said threat to main barrages in Sindh has averted as water level is receding.

He told a private radio the slope of our river system turns wide as it goes down which also results in decline of the water speed.
Usually water takes 24 to 30 hours to reach Sukkur Barrage from Guddu Barrage and takes 70 to 80 hours between Sukkur to Kotri Barrage. So, it makes totally three and a half days to reach water from Guddu to Kotri Barrage.
Then as the low lying areas of Sindh were quite dry, so the water perhaps took more time to reach Kotri from Guddu, he said this while answering a question as to why a flash flood of 10 lac cusecs passed by the Guddu Barrage two days ago but it had not reached Kotri Barrage yet.
Alamgir Khan said at the moment, 1,066,000 cusecs water is passing through Sukkur Barrage.
Replying to another question, he said the water flow at Guddu and Sukkur Barrages is decreasing. However, keeping in view rising water level at Taunsa again because of the rains in upper areas, an increase in water level at Guddu and Sukkur is expected within next three or four days.
