Wheat Policy 2025–26 approval, Procurement Price Set at Rs. 3,500 per 40kg

Islamabad (Pakistan News) The Government of Pakistan has officially approved the Wheat Policy 2025–26, under which farmers will be provided a fair price, and the government will procure strategic reserves to ensure stable stocks and farmer protection.
According to details, a high-level meeting chaired by Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif was held to discuss the wheat policy. The meeting was attended by the Chief Ministers of Punjab, Sindh, Baluchistan, and Gilgit-Baltistan, a representative from the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government, the Prime Minister of Azad Jammu and Kashmir, and other relevant stakeholders.
In his address, the Prime Minister stated that Pakistan is an agricultural economy and wheat holds critical importance. He emphasized that wheat is not only the staple food for the people of Pakistan but also the primary source of income for the country’s farmers. The government is fully aware of the challenges faced by the farming community, he added.
The Prime Minister explained that the federal government conducted extensive consultations with all stakeholders, including provincial governments, farmer organizations, industrialists, and the agricultural community. Based on this process, the National Wheat Policy 2025–26 has been finalized. The policy aims to protect public interests while ensuring profitability for farmers.
Participants of the meeting were briefed on the key highlights of the policy. It was announced that the federal and provincial governments will collectively procure around 6.2 million tons of strategic wheat reserves from the 2025–26 crop.

The procurement price will be Rs. 3,500 per 40kg, aligned with the international import price of wheat. This move is designed to ensure fair pricing and profitability for farmers while maintaining market competitiveness.

The policy also includes a significant provision: no restrictions will be placed on inter-provincial movement of wheat, ensuring its availability across the country.
