Numbers game complete, government formulates a strategy to get the 27th Amendment approved
Islamabad (Pakistan News) The government has formulated a strategy to get the 27th Amendment approved by the Senate and, according to government sources, a promise of support has been taken from the coalition parties.
Sources told that currently, the votes of 64 members are required from the Senate for the constitutional amendment, there are 30 members on the opposition benches who will necessarily oppose the constitutional amendment, the PPP is currently the largest party on the government benches with 26 seats, while the PML-N has 20, the Balochistan Awami Party (BAP) has 4 members on the government benches, 3 from the MQM-P, one from the National Party and one senator from the Pakistan Muslim League-Q (PMLQ) on the government benches.
In addition, there are 3 independent senators on the government benches, including Senator Abdul Karim, Senator Abdul Qadir and Mohsin Naqvi. Three senators, Anwarul Haq Kakar, Asad Qasim and Senator Faisal Vawda, do not sit on either the government or opposition benches. These three senators votes for the government, thus the government has the support of 67 members in the Senate.
Sources expressed hope that JUIF chief Maulana Fazal ur Rehman will also be ready to support them on a conditional basis, otherwise the government will have enough numbers.
