Awareness Walk Held at AIMC to Mark World Blood Donor Day

Lahore (Pakistan News) An awareness walk was organized at Allama Iqbal Medical College, Lahore, in connection with World Blood Donor Day to highlight the importance of voluntary blood donation and encourage young people to contribute towards this life-saving cause.
The walk was led by Principal Allama Iqbal Medical College, Prof. Dr. Tayyaba Waseem. Among those who participated were Head of the Department of Pathology, Prof. Dr. Shabnam Bashir, BBMT Organizer Naveed Noor, Health Communication Expert and Public Relations Manager of Sundas Foundation, Imran Mehar, along with faculty members, medical students, and healthcare staff.
Speaking on the occasion, the participants emphasized that a single unit of donated blood can help save the lives of up to three patients. They stressed the need to promote regular voluntary blood donation among healthy individuals to ensure the availability of safe blood for patients in need.
The speakers highlighted that blood donation is not only a noble humanitarian act but also beneficial for the donor’s health. They urged the younger generation to play an active role in fostering a culture of voluntary blood donation and raising awareness within their communities.
The participants carried banners and placards bearing messages about the significance of blood donation and the importance of saving human lives. The walk served as a reminder of the critical need for blood donations for patients suffering from thalassemia, hemophilia, cancer, accident-related injuries, and other medical conditions requiring regular transfusions.
At the conclusion of the event, participants reaffirmed their commitment to promoting awareness about blood donation and encouraging more people to become regular voluntary blood donors.
World Blood Donor Day is observed globally on June 14 each year to recognize and appreciate voluntary blood donors and to raise awareness about the need for safe and sufficient blood supplies worldwide.
