Lahore (Pakistan News) Strict measures are underway to eradicate smog in the provincial capital, and CTO Lahore Syed Abdul Rahim Sherazi has decided to further intensify the crackdown against vehicles emitting smoke and suspend the driving licenses of drivers.
According to CTO Lahore, in view of human health and public safety, the driving licenses of commercial vehicles as well as their route permits will be suspended. 45 special teams have been deployed at 12 entry and exit points of the city, while challans are being issued against vehicles emitting smoke with the help of artificial intelligence system.
Describing the details of the operations during the current month, he said that action has been taken against 3,649 vehicles emitting smoke and 2,183 vehicles causing pollution. In addition, 6,820 unfit and dilapidated vehicles have also been brought to justice.
Dumpers and tractor trolleys carrying soil and sand without tarpaulins are completely banned from entering the city, and 1,013 cases have been registered so far for violations.
The CTO Lahore says that letters have also been issued to several government and semi-government institutions to correct smoky vehicles. The zero-tolerance policy against polluting vehicles will continue and strict legal action will be taken against violations without discrimination.
