LAHORE (Pakistan News Online): Employees and teachers of Punjab University have announced that they will continue their protest until their demands are accepted. Chaudhry Basharat Mahmood demanded that the employees’ issues be resolved immediately and their outstanding dues be paid.
A large number of employees of the Punjab University Administrative and Technical Staff Association, along with teachers, participated in the protest organised by the Joint Action Committee of Punjab University.
The protest was addressed by Joint Action Committee Chairman Professor Dr. Sardar Asghar Iqbal, Professor Dr. Abdul Rehman Khan Niazi, ASA Senior Vice President Professor Dr. Muqit Javed, Dr. Abrar, Professor Dr. Kamran Mirza and other faculty members.
Chaudhry Basharat Mahmood, president of the Punjab University Administrative and Technical Staff Association and the Joint Action Committee, said employees had been holding peaceful protests for the past one and a half years. However, he said they were now compelled to resort to practical protest due to the administration’s continued failure to address their concerns.
Announcing the future course of action, Mahmood said employees would observe a two-hour protest every day by wearing black armbands and refraining from work in their offices, while rallies would be held every Wednesday.
He warned that if the administration failed to take their demands seriously, employees would be forced to block the canal bridge. He added that protests would also be held outside the Punjab chief minister’s office and on the GT Road near the university’s Gujranwala and Jhelum campuses.
Mahmood demanded immediate resolution of the employees’ issues and payment of all outstanding dues.
