Islamabad (PakistanNews) Pakistan has reached a significant milestone in modernizing its passport services. The era of machine-readable passports has come to an end, with the issuance of e-passports commencing on Friday across Pakistan and at Pakistani diplomatic missions worldwide.
Under this initiative, e-passports will be issued for both new applications and the renewal of existing passports. This development is particularly significant for Pakistanis residing abroad, as the provision of these modern travel documents will render passport services more efficient, secure, and aligned with international standards.
This initiative is also considered crucial for alleviating the travel and documentation-related challenges faced by overseas Pakistanis. The project was brought to fruition by the team at the Directorate General of Immigration and Passports, in line with the vision of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and the directives of Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi. Equipped with advanced security features, the e-passport will enhance identity verification and strengthen the security of travel documents.
DG Passport
Director General of Immigration and Passports, Muhammad Ali Randhawa, has described this development as a major step toward the modernization of Pakistan’s passport services. The completion of this project under his leadership is viewed as a notable achievement, reflecting the organization’s professional dedication and its commitment to adapting to contemporary requirements.
According to authorities, existing machine-readable passports will remain valid until their scheduled expiry, while e-passports will be issued for new applications and renewals. One nation, one passport, one identity — a significant step toward a modern Pakistan.
E Passport fee in Pakistan
According to Directorate General of Immigration & Passports website, there are two types of passport, one is 36 pages and other 72 pages, both are available in 5 and 10 years validity and fee is Rs 9000 to 40500.
