FCIT marks 17 years of excellence in programming competitions

Lahore (Pakistan News dot com dot pk) The Faculty of Computing & Information Technology (FCIT), University of the Punjab, has once again reaffirmed its position as one of Pakistan’s leading hubs for competitive programming and computing excellence by releasing its “Winning History of FCIT, Programming Competitions”, documenting an extraordinary 17-year journey of national success.

The comprehensive record showcases hundreds of podium finishes across Pakistan’s most prestigious inter-university competitions, including ICPC, SOFTEC, NaSCon, NASCON, PUCON, TechnoFest, VisioSpark, Brainiac, UET Olympiad, NUST competitions, LUMS Coding Guru, and many more. From speed programming, UI/UX design, robotics, AI, data science, web and app development to debugging and hackathons, FCIT students have consistently demonstrated technical brilliance and teamwork.

PUCIT’s history

Established in 1988 as the Punjab University College of Information Technology (PUCIT), the institution has played a pioneering role in shaping Pakistan’s IT and software industry. Over the decades, PUCIT evolved into the Faculty of Computing & Information Technology (FCIT), expanding its academic programs and research footprint while maintaining a strong focus on problem-solving, competitive programming, and innovation.
Today, FCIT is widely recognised for producing graduates who excel not only academically but also in high-pressure national and international competitions, reflecting the institution’s strong academic culture and mentorship-driven environment.

Faculty mentorship behind success

While the achievements belong to the students, the role of faculty mentorship has been central to this sustained success. In particular, Mr Abdul Mateen has been instrumental over the past five years, guiding teams, training students, and strengthening competitive programming culture at FCIT.

His dedication has translated into multiple first, second, and third positions across major events, including ICPC regional rounds, robotics contests, and national-level coding competitions. Faculty members’ continuous effort in grooming students beyond classrooms has been widely acknowledged as a key factor behind FCIT’s dominance.

Recent highlights (2024–2025)

In the most recent years, FCIT students have delivered remarkable performances:
• ICPC Pakistan 2024: Multiple teams secured Silver and Bronze Medals, placing FCIT among the country’s top performers.
• SOFTEC 2025 & NaSCon 2025: First positions in speed programming, robotics, and UI/UX design.
• PUCON 2025 & Technoverse: Dominant wins in UI/UX, AI-based challenges, and web competitions.
• NUST, UET, ITU & COMSATS events: Consistent podium finishes across programming and debugging categories.

These achievements reflect not just isolated victories, but a sustained competitive edge maintained over nearly two decades.
Sharing the achievement, FCIT administration stated that the compiled winning history is a testimony to collective effort—from students who pushed their limits to faculty members who mentored them relentlessly.

“This journey reflects the culture of excellence at FCIT. Special appreciation goes to our faculty, particularly Mr Abdul Mateen, whose leadership over the past five years has brought immense honour to the faculty. We look forward to many more milestones,” the statement read.

As FCIT enters its next chapter, the institution aims to further strengthen its presence at international competitions, nurture emerging technologies, and continue its legacy as one of Pakistan’s most successful computing faculties.
