decision to extend laptop scheme to private university students
Lahore (Pakistan News)The Punjab government has formally decided to extend the laptop scheme to private university students for the first time, in the initial phase, 10,000 laptops will be distributed among eligible candidates.
News agency INP reported citing provincial officials, the aim of this initiative is to reduce the educational and digital gap between public and private university students in the province.
The Higher Education Department confirmed that work on the scheme has started and the distribution of laptops to eligible students will start soon.
According to official sources, no change has been made in the eligibility criteria and the selection of students will be done on the basis of merit.
The scheme will include students who are enrolled in private universities in Punjab, have at least 70% marks or equivalent CGPA, and have not received a laptop in the previous issue.
An official of the Punjab Higher Education Department said that our aim is to bridge the digital gap between public and private university students.
Furthermore, the scheme also maintains a specific quota for women, disabled students and students from low-income families to promote equitable access to technological resources.
