Laptop scheme announced for disabled students in KP

Peshawar (Pakistan News) the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government has announced a special laptop scheme for blind and visually impaired students.

According to the news agency INP, under this scheme, blind and visually impaired students who are studying in colleges, universities or religious schools can apply.

To apply, they must be a permanent resident of the province and should have a disability certificate issued by the Social Welfare Department. The aim of this scheme is to provide modern technology to deserving students who are studying in recognized educational institutions, and laptops will be given on the basis of merit, subject to the availability of funds.

Applications will be received through the government’s online MIS system, which is available on the official website of the Social Welfare Department.

Officials said the selection process will be based on merit and academic performance. An official from the Social Welfare Department said the move reflects the provincial commitment to ensuring equality in educational opportunities by providing modern digital devices to students with disabilities.

The scheme is part of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government’s further efforts towards supporting the disabled community, digital literacy, and inclusive education. Educationists believe that access to laptops will significantly improve the educational outcomes of visually impaired students, as it will help them use screen readers, assistive software, and online educational resources.
